Seattle-Tehran Poster Show
Curator's Preview
Thursday, August 28 | Doors 6:30pm, Lecture 7:00pm
Starbucks Corporate Offices | 2401 Utah Ave S. Seattle
Building on the success of The Seattle-Havana Poster Show (2007-2008), curator Daniel R. Smith has gone half way around the world to unite the graphic design communities of Seattle and Tehran. The Seattle-Tehran Poster Show debuts at Bumbershoot, Seattle's Music and Arts Festival. Artists included range from Reza Abedini, a powerful figure in contemporary Iranian graphic design, to younger talents born since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. These Iranian designers' posters are paired with the work of Seattle designers, such as Robynne Raye of Modern Dog, Coby Schultz and Barry Ament of Ames Bros and many more.
Please join AIGA Seattle to view a sneak preview of this inspiring show, and hear the stories behind it. Daniel will be joined by Mamoun Sakkal, who will be sharing his extensive knowledge of Arabic typography and calligraphic forms--providing a deeper appreciation of the poster art.
Daniel R. Smith is a Seattle-based artist and designer who has worked as a graphic designer and art director for firms including NBBJ Architecture, Starbucks Coffee and Experience Music Project. Mamoun Sakkal is an internationally recognized graphic designer, architect, artist and teacher who has exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
